Today the NZ Tech Podcast NZ UFB page was updated with some big news. Featured is the first pricing for residential (and business) Ultra Fast Broadband (UFB) services in Auckland and Christchurch. This first pricing announcement comes from WorldNet – a central Auckland based Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Ultra fast broadband seems a bit of a misnomer – isn't this what most of the world calls 'standard' broadband? I know NZ has economy of scale issues with a small population, but by comparison in Japan we have 200Mb/s down / 100Mb/s up for 4,000yen a month – that's about $NZ60. It doesn't include a phone line but it has no data caps.
I think Stephen Fry has a point!
